Fighting is hard work, if you can get it. Art by Chris Rini.

The UFC is in Edmonton this weekend. And, you know what? They’ve brought a pretty decent card to the frozen wastes (I can say that, I live up here). Our main event features flyweight contenders Brandon Moreno and Amir Albazi. Hopefully the Albertan crowd can do better than their neighbours in British Columbia did with a flyweight main event (remember UFC 174?).

The co-main event features contenders in the promotion’s second flyweight division, with ex-strawweight champ Rose Namajunas meeting Erin Blanchfield. We’ve also got Derrick Lewis vs. Jhonata Diniz and Mike Malott vs. Trevin Giles on the main card.

The prelims have some intriguing match-ups, too, including Aiemann Zahabi vs. Pedro Munhoz and Charles Jourdain vs. Victor Henry.

We’ve crunched the numbers, watched the tape, and consulted the star charts and now we know who is going to win each and every one of those bouts. Or at least we think we do. Scroll down to see our picks for the whole event.

If you’re using this info for betting, I hope you win big. However, please bet responsibly and never wager anything you can’t afford to lose.

Brandon Moreno (-175) vs. Amir Albazi (+145)

Miguel Class: This is a tough fight to call and it’s made even more difficult by the puzzlingly bad performance by Moreno in his last fight. Not that he got steamrolled or anything, but he engaged in pretty much the only kind of fight that Royval could beat him in.

Still, that fight was probably closer than you remember and Moreno was able to show some of the quick boxing combinations that have become increasingly the main focus of his game. Even if we can’t trust Moreno to do what he does best, that is presenting a multi-faceted and aggressive game, he might be able to win on volume alone against Albazi.
